Value of ASGE Membership
Over the past 70 years, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has been a pioneer and leader in the promotion of endoscopic practice and research, and has championed the cause of endoscopists in private and group practice settings, as well as academia. If endoscopy is your practice, ASGE is your partner!
Whether you are a trainee or full-time endoscopist practicing in the United States or abroad, there are many benefits of ASGE membership designed specifically to meet your needs. In additon, being an ASGE member has a positive reflection on you because it connotes being a respected and well-trained endoscopist to your colleagues, patients and institution.
Membership Notes
The ASGE membership cycle is on a calendar-year basis from January 1 to December 31 each year. Membership is organized into nine groups: Active, International, Trainee, Associate, Affiliate and Student. Three membership sub-groups also exist: "Senior," "Fellow" (FASGE) and "Honorary." See full eligibility requirements in the respective bylaws listed below.
Only "Active" members and "Fellows" (FASGE) of the Society shall have the right to vote and to hold elected office. All membership applicants are required to meet a criterion which is which is established by the ASGE Governing Board and subject to change.
The sooner you submit your application for membership, the sooner you can start receiving exclusive benefits and resources available only to ASGE members! An application can be completed online or downloaded and returned via fax or mail. Completed applications will be processed in six to eight weeks. Upon approval of your application, you will be notified by ASGE staff.

Membership Categories
Active Member - $465 (includes a one-time $100 initiation fee)
The "Active" membership category is for individuals who can present documented evidence of successful completion of an accredited training program that includes gastrointestinal endoscopy, administered by physicians and/or surgeons, during a fellowship in an adult or pediatric gastroenterology (or surgical residency) training program including at least one of the following: upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, laparoscopy, colonoscopy or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. The applicant must be sponsored by only one "Active" or "Senior" member of the Society. The application fee is $465 (this includes a one-time initiation fee of $100).
International Member - $405 (includes a one-time $100 initiation fee)
The "International" membership category is for individuals who 1) reside outside the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada and 2) can provide evidence of certification by an appropriate specialty board or documented evidence of completion of an accredited training program in gastroenterology, pediatric gastroenterology or general surgery. Those applicants who reside in countries that do not have a specialty board must submit evidence of membership in and endorsement by their national endoscopic society. The applicant must also be sponsored by one "Active," "Senior" or "International" member of ASGE. The application fee is $405 (this includes a one-time initiation fee of $100).

Trainee Member - $25 (waive $100 initiation fee when upgrading to full membership)
The "Trainee" membership category is for resident fellows or trainees who have completed at least two years of post-doctoral training and are continuing with full-time training status in an ACGME or RCPSC accredited program which includes gastrointestinal endoscopy under the supervision of a member of the Society or an instructor whose endoscopic credentials are acceptable to the membership committee. The applicant’s training director is required to complete a trainee endorsement form on the applicant’s behalf. The application fee is $25 (waive $100 initiation fee when upgrading to full membership).

Trainee Member International Application - $25 (waive $100 initiation fee when upgrading to full membership)
The "International Trainee" membership category is for medical/surgical residents, gastroenterology fellows or trainees. The applicant’s gastroenterology fellowship training director or gastroenterology department director is required to complete a trainee endorsement form on the applicant’s behalf. The application fee is $25 (waive $100 initiation fee when upgrading to full membership).

Associate Member - $75/$100
Candidates for the "Associate" membership include registered nurses, technicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are employed in the field of endoscopy but do not perform endoscopy. SGNA members receive a discount on associate member dues. The application fee is $75/$100.
Affiliate Member for Industry - $445 (includes a one-time initiation fee of $100)
The "Affiliate" membership category is for those individuals who do not practice endoscopy but demonstrate special interest in the broad field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, without personally having the endoscopic training or skills. This includes industry representatives. The applicant must be sponsored by one Active or Senior members of the ASGE. The application fee is $445 (this includes a one-time initiation fee of $100).
PharmDs, Practice Managers, Directors and Administrators - $110
The Affiliate membership category is for those individuals who do not practice endoscopy but demonstrate special interest in the broad field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, without personally having the endoscopic training or skills. The applicant must be sponsored by one Active or Senior members of the ASGE. The application fee is $110.
Senior Member - Complimentary
After reaching the age of seventy years and ceasing to practice gastrointestinal endoscopy, an "Active" or "International" Member may, upon request and by approval of the ASGE Governing Board, be deemed a "Senior" Member.
FASGE (Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) - $200
Fellowship in the ASGE is intended to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the Society, through service or education, or to the field of endoscopy. The application fee is $200.
Honorary Member - Complimentary
The ASGE Governing Board is authorized to confer "Honorary" membership in the Society to any physician, scientist or lay person whom it considers worthy of this standing because of outstanding contributions to the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy (or related fields). A maximum of three Honorary Members may be elected annually by the Governing Board upon nomination by the Awards Committee, with no more than one from each of the OMED Zones. Honorary members shall be limited to 50 within ASGE's overall membership. Honorary members shall have all the privileges of "Active" members, except the right to vote and hold elected office. Honorary members shall not be required to pay dues and shall receive a complimentary subscription to the GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Student e-Membership
The “Student” e-membership category is open to persons who have a minimum of one of the following (or equivalent) degrees: Bachelors of Arts or Bachelors of Science, and enrolled in a U.S., Canadian or international medical school. A completed membership application supplied by the Society and signature by medical student’s supervisor or instructor. The application fee is $25.
